Short Orthodox prayers at the heart of every rule

Some Orthodox prayers are said many times a day, at the start of the morning and evening prayers and through the day. If you are new to Orthodox prayer, begin with these.

The Jesus Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Prayed slowly, often on a prayer rope. The app counts it for you, knot by knot.

The Trisagion

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.

The “thrice-holy” hymn, said three times near the beginning of the prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:9–13, King James Version. The prayer Christ taught, said at every service.
